Careers in Clinical Research: Clinical Research Coordinator
The Careers in Clinical Research: Clinical Research Coordinator Short-Term Observer Program in the office of the Vice President of Clinical Research is designed to provide an immersive introduction to clinical research and a potential career path in the field. MD Anderson is home to the nation's largest cancer clinical trials program, and our Careers in Clinical Research: Clinical Research Coordinator Learning Series gives learners the opportunity to dive into key areas of the field, learn foundational content developed by clinical research leaders and shadow experts who are advancing novel cancer therapies. From clinical research coordinators to biostatisticians, our program is comprised clinical research learning modules providing key insights that professionals need to initiate successful careers in clinical research.
Our program welcomes applications from individuals who have:
- A strong interest in pursuing a career in clinical research
- A high school diploma and are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
- A plan to seek a job in clinical research roles at least 6 months after completing the program

Learning Objectives
Equip new and upcoming graduates with the key resources to pursue potential careeropportunities in clinical research coordination of novel, high impact clinical trials inoncology.
Program Format and Highlights:
- Hybrid learning model comprising online asynchronous instruction to gaincomprehensive understanding of activities directly involved in clinical trial research
- Onsite shadowing clinical research leaders in clinical trial coordination, data management and participant recruitment delivering a "hands-in pocket" educational experience in various aspects of clinical research
- Network opportunities to build relationships and expand professional networks,facilitating the exploration of potential career paths in clinical research
Additional Requirements
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled at an academic or health care institution. Completed applications must also include the following to be considered:
- Proof of current enrollment at an academic institution of higher learning (e.g.copy of academic transcript)
- Letter of Recommendation
- Personal statement (up to 750 words) of interest in pursuing a career in clinical research

Winter Cohort (December 2025) Submission Deadline: September 30, 2025
Spring Cohort (May 2026) Submission Deadline: February 28, 2026
Summer Cohort (July 2026) Submission Deadline: May 30, 2026
Course participants will be required to complete all e-learning modules followed by a 4-day in-person session to secure completion of the short-term observership program. E-learning modules will be available to all accepted participants 6 weeks prior to the cohort start date.

Institute for Cell Therapy Discovery and Innovation
The Institute for Cell Therapy Discovery and Innovation (ICDTI) invests in the pre-clinical and early clinical developments of cell products and aims to develop academics leaders in clinical, translational and basic research aspects of cellular therapy. By participating in this observership, observers will gain valuable exposure to the field of oncology, enhance their understanding of the medical and research profession, and develop essential skills that will benefit them in their future careers

Summer Intern Genetic Counseling Shadowing
The Summer Intern Genetics Counseling Shadowing program in the Clinical Cancer Genetics Program is seeking observers interested in a unique 5-day unpaid shadowing opportunity this summer. You'll get the chance to observe real-life both in-person and virtual cancer genetic counseling sessions and connect with professionals who are making a difference every day.
The program selecting one student per session, so apply early!
