Physician Assistant Student Elective Rotation
MD Anderson Cancer Center | Duration: 2 Weeks ¨C 3 Months
Are you a physician assistant (PA) student passionate about cancer care? MD Anderson Cancer Center invites qualified students to participate in a rewarding elective clinical rotation focused on oncology. This experience¡ªlasting from two weeks to three months¡ªoffers unique exposure to
world-class cancer care and interprofessional collaboration at one of the
nation¡¯s top cancer hospitals.
What You¡¯ll Experience
During your rotation, you'll work alongside and be mentored by experienced physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physicians. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you¡¯ll gain hands-on experience in:
- Medical Oncology
- Surgical Oncology
- Radiation Oncology
- Interventional Radiology
- Nocturnal Care Teams
- Additional supportive care and specialty areas
You'll experience the intensity and impact of cancer care while learning in an environment that values empathy, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
Eligibility Requirements
We currently have active affiliation agreements with over 200 accredited PA programs across the U.S. Students from affiliated programs are invited to apply.

Please contact us to confirm. If your program needs to initiate or renew an agreement, the process may take up to 120 days, so plan ahead.
To be eligible, students must have completed at least 16 weeks of clinical rotations, including:
- 4 weeks in Medicine
- 4 weeks in Surgery
- 4 weeks in Family Practice or Ambulatory Care
- 4 weeks in General Pediatrics
These requirements help ensure you arrive well-prepared to contribute meaningfully in a high-acuity oncology setting.
Applying
Applications are accepted quarterly, and selections are based on preceptor availability and rotation length.
Competitive applicants typically demonstrate:
- Strong academic performance
- A passion for oncology
- Volunteer or service-oriented experiences
- Interest in postgraduate oncology training
- A desire to work at MD Anderson
Reference forms submitted by your PA program are also considered.

*Please note: Applications requesting rotation dates outside of the application periods above will not be considered.
COVID 19 Policy:
Pre-rotation COVID testing is no longer required. However, if you test positive prior to your start date:
- You must quarantine for 7 days
- Your program must submit a letter confirming you¡¯ve been symptom-free for 24 hours
- A negative test result is recommended, though not required
