Achieving goal concordant care involves a dynamic, continuous process of communication and shared decision making between patients and clinicians to navigate the uncertainties along a patient¡¯s illness journey.
Achieving goal concordant care involves a dynamic, continuous process of communication and shared decision making between patients and clinicians to navigate the uncertainties along a patient¡¯s illness journey.
At MD Anderson¡¯s Center for Goal Concordant Care Research, we work to advance transformative research aimed at improving goal concordant care for patients with advanced cancer.
Individuals living with advanced cancer are often faced with many treatment decisions. Unfortunately, some individuals do not fully understand how serious their illness is, which can lead to treatments that don¡¯t match their values, preferences or goals. This often results in multiple emergency room visits, avoidable hospitalizations and unnecessary treatments in the last months of life.
Accelerating Discoveries to Improve Goal Concordant Care
The Center for Goal Concordant Care Research brings together scientific expertise in five major areas of research: personalization science, communication and decision-making science, supportive care, implementation science and educational research.
This interdisciplinary approach will pave the way to providing personalized cancer care that aligns with patients¡¯ values, preferences and goals throughout their cancer journey.
