Long has a long standing interest in understanding the role of non-coding RNAs (microRNA and IncRNAs) in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic nephropathy. He is currently exploring the consequences of in vivo targeting of a novel IncRNA, Tug 1, in the diabetic milieu.
