The musculoskeletal imaging department interprets diagnostic imaging studies for patients with a wide range of conditions affecting the bones and soft tissues, including primary bone and soft tissue sarcomas, as well as metastatic disease and multiple myeloma. Imaging studies include conventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), whole-body MRI and positron emission tomography (PET).
The radiologists in the musculoskeletal imaging have nationally and internationally recognized expertise in diseases affecting the bone and soft tissues, including diffuse marrow diseases, metabolic disorders, whole-body screening for primary and metastatic disease.
The staff in the musculoskeletal imaging section will provide a timely and accurate interpretation of high-quality diagnostic studies used for diagnosis, staging, and follow-up of diseases affecting the bones and soft tissues.
Major Accomplishments
Clinical activities and publications include investigation of metastatic bone and soft tissue disease (especially advanced breast cancer assessment), retroperitoneal sarcomas (especially, multiple myeloma, metabolic bone disease, and decision and medical imaging perception). The department has also developed the whole-body MRI protocol for screening of patients with Li-Fraumeni syndrome and other genetic disorders.
Faculty are active reviewers for major radiology journals, including Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, RadioGraphics, Skeletal Radiology and Journal of the American College of Radiology.
Honors and Recognition
Faculty members have served or been recognized by the president of the American Roentgen Ray Society, first vice president of the Radiological Society of North America, Best Doctors in America, and Marquis Who¡¯s Who, lifetime and distinguished service awards from the American Board of Radiology, and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (Innovative use of Technology award), and gold medal of the American Roentgen Ray Society, and are board member and trustee of the American Board of Radiology and fellows of the American College of Radiology and member editorial boards.

Education and Training
Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship: Â鶹ӳ» MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Hermann Hospital accept two individuals for a one-year fellowship that offers extensive clinical and academic research experience in an integrated program.
Goals and Objectives:
- Educate fellows in the advanced interpretation of conventional radiography, CT, MRI, and PET examinations of the musculoskeletal system.
- Educate fellows in biology, treatment and complications of neoplastic and acquired musculoskeletal diseases, particularly as they are reflected in musculoskeletal imaging studies and procedures.
- Provide an opportunity for clinical education and academic research using the clinical material and resources of Â鶹ӳ» MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Hermann Hospital in an integrated program.
