Letter from our Program Director
Program Director
Welcome to the UT MD Anderson Melanoma Oncology Fellowship Program. We are pleased that you are considering our program as part of your professional development, and we appreciate the opportunity to introduce you to a training environment devoted to exceptional patient care, scientific inquiry and the advancement of melanoma research.
Our department brings together expert clinical care, access to the latest systemic treatments for melanoma, clinical trials and laboratory-based discoveries to improve outcomes for patients with melanoma. The purpose of our program is to help fellows develop the knowledge, judgment and confidence required to care for patients with melanoma across the disease spectrum. Fellows train in a setting where patients may receive immune checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies, adoptive T-cell approaches, combination regimens and clinical trials designed to test new strategies for patients across the disease spectrum. UT MD Anderson also emphasizes multidisciplinary care through the Melanoma and Skin Center, where treatment plans may include advanced systemic therapies, surgery, radiation and access to new drugs through clinical trials.
At UT MD Anderson, fellows are immersed in a setting where clinical excellence and research discovery are closely connected. The program offers one year of intensive clinical training, with the possibility of a second year for fellows who wish to pursue clinical research, translational investigation or basic science work in greater depth. Furthermore, the program also emphasizes the broader professional skills essential to oncology practice, including communication, professionalism, system-based care, practice improvement and collaborative decision-making.
We seek applicants who are intellectually curious, self-motivated, thoughtful and committed to caring for patients with seriousness and compassion. We value physicians who are eager to learn from patients, collaborate with colleagues, teach others and engage deeply with the scientific principles behind modern cancer therapy.
We hope that this fellowship will be a formative chapter in which you refine your clinical and research interests. Thank you for your interest in the UT MD Anderson Melanoma Oncology Fellowship Program. Please reach out to us for more information.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is committed to encouraging good health and staying true to our mission to end cancer. If you are applying for a GME fellowship or residency program starting on or after July 1, 2016, please be advised that MD Anderson will have instituted a tobacco-free hiring process as part of its efforts to achieve these goals. If you are offered an appointment, you will be subject to a Pre-Employment Drug Screen for tobacco compounds in compliance with applicable state laws. If you do not pass the urine drug screening which includes testing for tobacco compounds, you CANNOT be appointed at MD Anderson. Should you fail to meet this contingency, MD Anderson will withdraw your offer of appointment for the academic year. You may reapply for the following academic year, but there are no guarantees that you will be offered a position as many of our programs are already filled for several years out.
