MD Anderson presents fourth annual Boot Walk to End Cancer?

Register now to give cancer the boot on Saturday, Nov. 9

On Saturday, Nov. 9, Âé¶¹Ó³»­ MD Anderson Cancer Center will welcome thousands of cancer survivors and supporters to the Texas Medical Center for the fourth annual .

The non-competitive 1.2-mile walk starts at 1 p.m., followed by a family-friendly finish line celebration. Free parking will be available at MD Anderson's Mid Campus Garage, 7007 Bertner Ave., with shuttles to the start line at Bertner Avenue and East Road.

¡°We want everyone to know there¡¯s still time to register and bring the entire family out for the event,¡± said Ashley Petersen, the 2019 Boot Walk co-chair along with her husband, Chris. ¡°We have lost family members to cancer, and we are seeing more loved ones being diagnosed. Part of what makes this event special is that everyone can participate and make a difference for cancer patients.¡±     

Anyone can register for free, and participants are encouraged to wear their favorite pair of boots to symbolize giving cancer ¡°the boot.¡± Justin Stapleton, KPRC-TV meteorologist, will emcee the event, and Sarah Pepper of Mix 96.5 and George Lindsey of 100.3 The Bull will cheer participants across the finish line. The post-walk celebration will include live music, food trucks, photo ops and more. Individuals who fundraise $100 or more will earn a Boot Walk T-shirt.

¡°Funds raised through the Boot Walk have a direct impact on advancing our mission to end cancer,¡± said Peter WT Pisters, M.D., president of MD Anderson. ¡°Thanks to the support of our Boot Walk participants and sponsors, and the resilience of our patients, we are one step closer to Making Cancer History.¡±

Since the inaugural Boot Walk in 2016, more than 18,000 participants and 1,498 teams have raised more than $4.1 million to fund critical cancer research and programs at MD Anderson.
